Snowy winter geocaching

by Maria 27. December 2009 22:01

We've come to realize a few things about geocaching in the winter, specifically in as much snow as we have right now:

  • The attribute "available during winter" doesn't always mean "easily accesible", the cache might still be under a stone (=under snow and ice)
  • If it's around zero degrees the snow gets very wet, and after five minutes in the snow you know you should have been wearing rubber boots
  • A quick and easy (=max 5 minutes) cache with parking coordinates and just a short walk might easily take an hour, since you have to dig up all the snow in a 10 meter circle and then pry the cache loose from the frozen ground
  • There is a slight chance that your car will get stuck on a high snow bank, or that you'll end up in an snow filled ditch (noo, it hasn't happened yet - but we've cut it pretty close a couple of times)

It's quite exciting actually Wink Laughing
